We are looking to add to our team of amazing Peer Leaders for the 2017/2018 school year! Visit http://www.ufv.ca/prlc/become-a-peer-leader/ to apply before June 20th!

Peer leaders are committed to providing peer support, information, and referrals to the UFV community of students. Peer leaders don’t follow a typical profile – volunteers can come from all walks of life and bring different life experiences to the table. Successful peer leaders will have the following characteristics:

  • Empathetic
  • Compassionate
  • Able to quickly build relationships with new people
  • Mature
  • Committed and reliable
  • Respectful of privacy and confidentiality
  • Appreciative of diverse lifestyles and points of view
  • Flexible and open to change
  • Able to work individually as well as in a team setting
  • Able to remain calm during emergency situations

Volunteering with the Peer Resource and Leadership Centre is a considerable time commitment. Mandatory training is approximately 30 hours. This volunteer position is not for everyone, so please take the time to consider the overall time commitment before applying. Peer leaders are asked to commit to 4-5 hours a week for a minimum of two semesters (September to April).

Some of the specific topics to be covered in training include sexual consent and assault, mental health, supporting students in distress, and suicide prevention.

Students who are selected to interview for this position will be asked for two references (can be business, education, or volunteer related).

We are now accepting applications for the 2017/2018 school year! Applications have been extended to June 20, 2017! Successful candidates will be contacted for an interview.

Training is MANDATORY and scheduled to take place August 23-25, 2017. If you are unable to attend all three days of training, we will not be able to have you join the team at this time.
